Basic troubleshooting of the MMC series media converter
Question
How to troubleshoot an AT-MMC series media converter?
Answer
Introduction
If the unit is not functioning as expected, please go through the following simple troubleshooting steps.
If the PWR LED and SYS LED are not illuminated
Please confirm the DC plug and AC plug from the AC adapter is correctly seated.
Power cycle the media converter.
Verify the power source is functioning correctly by using another power adapter of the same type that came with your media converter or with any other device.
If the SYS LED blinks slowly
Power cycle the media converter.
If the media converter uses an SFP (small form-factor pluggable) unit.
Remove then reseat the SFP unit
Try a different SFP unit
If the twisted-pair L/A LED does not illuminate
Verify that the twisted-pair cable is securely connected to the port on the media converter channel and to the port on the remote device.
Verify that the twisted-pair cable does not exceed 100 meters (328 feet) and is functioning with 2 known good ports.
Verify that the device connected to the twisted-pair port is powered on and is operating properly.
Verify that the device connected to the media converter is operating at the same speed.
If the Fiber Port L/A LED does not illuminate
Verify that the fiber cable is securely connected to the port on the media converter and to the port on the remote device.
Verify that the media converter’s transmitter port (TX) is connected to the end node’s receiver port (RX) and that the media converter’s receiver port (RX) is connected to the end node’s transmitter port (TX).
Verify that the device connected to the fiber port of the media converter is powered on and is operating properly.
Verify that the device connected to the fiber port of the media converter is operating at the same speed.
Verify that the correct type of fiber-optic cabling is being used (OS2 is usually only used in long distance communication)
Verify that the wavelength between the media converter and the device connected to the fiber port of the media converter matches.
