How to return an AlliedWare Plus devices to its factory default?

I forgot my password, can I return my switch to its factory default settings?

Introduction


The special boot options allow for system recovery in the event of a forgotten password or to return to the default configuration, you will need physical access to the unit and a console cable in order to connect to the unit “Console” port and reboot it.

Boot menu


When the following prompt is displayed during startup, enter “Ctrl+B” immediately to access the bootloader menu where boot options can be set.
Note: To enter the boot menu, Ctrl+B must be entered when prompted before the software modules start loading. This windows is usually very short (about 2 seconds)

The boot options shown are the following:
 

Boot Menu:

 2. Change the default boot source (for advanced users)
 3. Update Bootloader

 9. Quit and continue booting

When you are prompted, press “5” to access the Special boot options menu

 0. Return to previous menu

 1. Skip startup script (Use system defaults)

Press “1” to bypass the configuration file and start with the "default.cfg" file instead.
 

Option successfully set. Press 0 then 9 to boot with the default configuration
Or boot the system from an alternate source.
 

Press “0” to return to previous menu and then press “9” to start the boot process with the default settings.

Once the bootloader has performed its system initialization, it passes control to the main Operating System image, then begins its startup sequence. This sequence will be seen when everything loads and runs as expected.

Now you have a device with the factory settings where you are asked for the initial user "manager" and the initial password "friend"

Remember to save the new configuration file or else if the unit is rebooted, you will have to perform this process again.

Hint: Change the name of the configuration file, if you only save the configuration file using "wr" the name of the file will be "default.cfg"
